I teach adults online – showing common grammar traps helped get DMs
It's great
Hi, watching here from iloilo Philippines, thanks
My hesitation is two-fold. Firstly, study materials. I´ve been teaching English for years now, and it´s time I move away from low-pay platforms. How much do I need to invest in materials, and how much can just be used from pictures, videos, etc. Secondly, is the headache of contracts, and enforcing payment arrangements.
How do we get that information that you just showed that will help us
Just subscribed to your channel and I think it will go a long way in helping me to start up my online tutoring business.
I have been getting a lot of value from your content.
How can I join your tutorial
I just charged £10 and started 3 years ago. Now I charge £15 per hour for maths / science / English for year 6,7,8 and GCSEs as well.
Your first tip is not even effective for someone who lives in an English speaking country (especially small) and will be teaching English. These tips didn't necessarily teach you how to start an online tutoring business. LOL
I’m a certified teacher at 27 years old. I’m going to charge $50 per hour and also do packages with discounts
Self limiting thought would be that I'm not good enough.
Hey Lisa. I love your video. I’m an electrical engineering graduate from South Africa. I’m starting a tutoring company for some of my favourite undergraduate modules while I further my studies. I am extremely nervous and not quite sure where to start. Any advice?
Wow this video gave me so much knowledge and understanding. When it comes to the pricing of sessions…I believe that we need to know the context of every learner we tutoring, their backgrounds, surroundings….not every learner, or parent can afford a certain price…so we need to be mindful and reasonable about our pricing as well.
Hello Lisa that was a very useful video. What’s the name of your company
I want to start a tutoring business but outside my country with online sessions because the currency here sucks. If I know someone over the country I want to start my business, is it still feasible to spread word of mouth or would it be a waste of time? And more importantly, how do I set my ideal students. Like, let's say I know already what's the type of student I want to teach, how would I avoid other lazy or uninterested students? Is there a way, let's say in my posts on social media I can clarify this? Not clarify as in, "oh yeah we only want students who will put in the effort" but something definitely more subtle that doesn't scare away possible public but takes in the biggest amount of promising students?
I don't know if I'm being clear, sorry for that. But I would appreciate greatly if you could give me advice on that or do a video on one of those aspects. Thank you very much, the video has helped me a lot and I will keep on seeking guidance through your content! Great video 🙂

Great session!!
Hi, I know I'm 2 years late to the video, but
I’ve been thinking about starting my own online tutoring business, but I’m held back by concerns about marketing and pricing due to my qualifications. I’m currently a diploma student in medical science, with about a year and a half left to complete my studies. As an undergraduate, I’m worried that parents might question my eligibility as a tutor.
My target clients for now are primary school students, whom I’d tutor in science, English, and history. I’m also considering tutoring younger children (ages 4-6) in counting, reading, and enhancing their speaking and comprehension skills, as well as introducing basic calculations.
In my country, being a tutor isn’t just about knowing the materials and methods. It often requires aligning with the students' syllabus, as most parents want tutors who can help their children excel in exams. I’m also concerned that my young age (I’m 19) might lead to doubts about my credibility or even accusations of being a scammer.
There are also are already many established tutoring businesses with great reputations. They take on large numbers of students each year and have proven their effectiveness. I feel like competing with them feels overwhelming.
I’d really appreciate your feedback and any advice you can offer. Thank you.
Amazing video thank you! I recently started through a family friend and offered a slightly lower price for a trial session. I doubted my ability but then plucked up the courage to increase the price. I underestimated the work that goes into it and now I’m aware of how much of my time is going into it I would happily increase my price again!
This is so helpful! I want to go independent because I'm tired of working for teaching companies and paying them half of what I earn per hour in "fees". Every time I think of quitting though, the challenge of going on my own overwhelms me😓. My biggest concern is figuring out how to get paid internationally and how to market myself internationally. Any ideas?
Just came across your video as I was looking for sites to apply tutoring jobs. Your channel is so informative 👍
Great vid. Thank you for sharing.
I took your advice on how to start your tutoring business in 24 hours. I took my own approach to better understand the needs of my community compared to my experience and skill sets. I am a certified special needs teacher and have worked as an RBT and in group homes caring for individuals with disabilities. Where I live at in Florida has one of the highest populations of individuals diagnosed with Autism. Families are completely burned out, schools have “given up”, and a lot of these children end up in staffed group homes when they are adults. So after 24 hours of inquiring and speaking with families, I am currently working on scheduling my first 2 clients (maybe 3?). Even though it wasn’t exactly what I thought I would be doing but this is the largest need in my community where I can put my skills, education, and experience to use in a productive way, helping families. If this works out, I will be my own boss. Thank you for the advice to just put yourself out there. Once I mentioned I was experienced with special needs and teaching, families told me what they needed and I met them where they’re at.
Hi Lisa. I started a tutoring business since months and now l’m thinking about hiring tutors, but I don’t know how to do so; in order to make make it professional, do i need to create a website for teachers and students’ subscriptions or there are other ways? Thanks for your videos, they are very helpful❤
